Postpartum Diet & Exercise with Athleta

This post is sponsored by Athleta. Thank you so much for supporting the brands that I truly love and that make this blog possible!

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is about postpartum diet and exercise! I wanted to give you all an update on what I have been doing lately s far as my diet and exercise is concerned! I have also found that as a mother of three, it’s much easier to dress is athletic wear for the entire day than anything else! Between running around bringing them to and from school, activities and appointments – athletic wear is the most comfortable and it looks so well put together! One of my favorite athletic wear companies, Athleta recently reached out to collaborate and I literally FLIPPED because, I AM OBSESSED with Athleta. Seriously, one of the best brands for moms to dress in for every day wear! PLUS, a few of you sent me links to this amazing pullover weeks ago and it’s so crazy because I knew that was the exact item I wanted to feature because it’s nursing friendly! Before I dive into my current diet and exercise routine, here is a peek into the items that I am wearing in today’s post!

First up, this Cascades Parka. Holy SMOKES is this baby warm! It’s wind resistant and has lightweight Primaloft® Eco insulation. I love that it has enough bulk to keep me toasty warm but also keeps a feminine fit/shape to it!

This next piece, the pullover, is my FAVORITE. A few of you suggested this piece to me as being “nursing friendly” over the past few months/weeks and I just knew that this is the one piece I had to scoop up for this collaboration. It makes nursing a breeze and it’s super warm too! The perfect item to put onto your Christmas wish list 😉

Lastly, these Summiter Tights! Hands down, the best pair of black pants I have to throw on and go out of the house. They have pockets (always a win) and are fitted so nicely everywhere! I will be doing an Instagram story with these on so that you can get a good idea of fit! These tights combine two fabrics that provide water-repellent support and mobility and an extra high waistband in back for added warmth!

CURRENT POSTPARTUM DIET AND EXERCISE ROUTINE

With each pregnancy and delivery, I have had a different attitude once that 6 week mark hit. With my first, I didn’t exercise for MONTHS because of some issues with my pelvic floor. After my second, I was eager to start working out again and I did so right away. With my third, I have been a bit hesitant because of some issues with my lower spine and pelvic floor but I have been doing some light jogging and work in the gym. I have been trying to get outside and walk on a daily basis for at least 1-2 miles just to get out and move my legs! When I go to the gym, I typically do circuits at the gym where I will do something like this:

10 minute walk on an incline

6 exercise circuit with jumping lunges, kettleball swings, pushups, sumo squats & whatever else I think of on the spot! I just one minute of each and move to the next with 10 second rest in between.

5 minute vigorous cardio – usually stairmaster

repeat circuit again

As far as my diet is concerned, this is always where I have struggled. I am not a “diet” type person and I can never follow anything for longer than a day! Ha! With that being said, I did do Nancy Anderson’s 30 day slim down in October and followed it for 3 weeks before I gave into Halloween candy. This is the longest I have ever stuck with a program and so many people have asked how it went. It was AMAZING. I felt like my mind was more clear, I had more energy and I ended up dropping 10 pounds. Best part was that my supply ended up increasing after the initial few days of shock that my body went through. It’s an amazing diet for those who are postpartum and need support along the way. She creates a Facebook group where you can be encouraged by others in the same program and she will help you with anything along the way! I highly recommend it! I think I may have  coupon code still active – so email me if you’re interested!

As for my diet now? Well, I would be embarrassed to tell you but I am just trying to work myself through Quarter 4 and let’s just say that candy helps… A LOT.

I would love for you to tell us about your postpartum diet and exercise routine in the comments below!

  1. I just had my son 3 months ago. Before getting pregnant I ran 30 plus miles a week, I was able to continue running ( but less mileage) when I was pregnant up to 33 weeks. I had a c section so I did not start working out until 6 weeks postpartum. I wake to feed the baby around 3 go back to bed until 4 and then head to the gym. I run 4 miles 4 times a week plus a long run on Sat. After I run I do some circuit training and pelvic floor work. I don’t believe in dieting, I just try to eat 3 healthy and nutrient dense mrsls a day plus snacks

  2. Would love the coupon code for Nancy Anderson’s 30 day slim down. I’m 5 weeks post partum and need to jump start things! Thanks!

  3. I love all of these pieces! I might just need to buy their entire website, so thank you for that haha. I would love a coupon code for Nancy’s program- currently 4 months postpartum with my third babe in 2.5 years so my body needs a total reset!

  4. I’m anxious to get into a routine . I have two more weeks until I am cleared to work out! I know you wore the corset- which looked like it was very effective . I have been wearing one too but trying to decide when to stop wearing it . How long did you wear yours for? Did you stop at the 6 week mark?

  5. What sports bras do you find work best for a breastfeeding/running mom? I’m so uncomfortable when I try to run. Any thoughts on when it is okay to run with baby in the joggging stroller?

  6. Have you seen MommaStrong? It’s a series of 15 minute online workout programs with a whole series dedicated to strengthening your pelvic floor. I have been really impressed with the quality of the instruction. She really knows her stuff. And it’s $2 a month. I have never had children but deal with hip and back issues and her instructional videos have been really eye opening. Highly recommend.
