Packing Your Hospital Bag: Here’s What You Really Need

I am incredibly excited about today’s post about packing your hospital bag! As promised, I wanted to compile a list of all the things you really need to pack for the hospital in preparation for the arrival of your little one!  I also reached out to a few of my favorite brands to put together a pre-packed hospital bag for ONE of you to WIN! Details on how to enter the giveaway is at the bottom of this post! I typically try to have my hospital bag ready to go around 36 weeks just in case baby decides to come earlier. My first born came two weeks early so you just never know! It’s always better to be prepared than not! This post will include what to pack for baby, your significant other and yourself!

Packing your Hospital Bag: What You REALLY Need

I usually pack two bags, one for myself and baby and one for my husband. There are really very few things you actually need but here is exactly what I plan to pack into my hospital birth bag this third time around! I also included a FREE printable checklist at the bottom of this post! Feel free to print it and use it while you pack! πŸ™‚

Packing your Hospital Bag: What You REALLY Need

Your duffel bag // I am using this amazing Catalina Washed Canvas bag from Lo & Sons (included in the giveaway) and its the perfect size to fit everything you need for the baby and yourself!

Toiletry/Cosmetic Bag // I use these bags from BAGGU (included in the giveaway) for my toiletries and my makeup! I always bring face cleanser & lotion, shampoo, conditioner, soap, body lotion, & my makeup along with me! I also always include new mama bottom spray and balm from Earth Mama Angela Baby, Refresh Oil from Zoe Organics (great to put on during and after labor!), & Cream by Zoe Organics (this stuff is great for ANYTHING including chapped lips, eczema spots, anything!)

Packing your Hospital Bag: What You REALLY Need

Your own towel // I despised the smell of the hospital towels and I enjoyed having my own towel during each birth. Havlu has the most luxurious Turkish towels and we are giving one away with the hospital bag!

Packing your Hospital Bag: What You REALLY Need

Nursing Pajamas/Clothing & Bra // I have a few items for after birth that I pack into my bag. Typically two sets of nursing pajamas that I can easily slip into while in the hospital! One of my favorite brands, Belabumbum has teamed up with us for this giveaway and you can see what’s included below!

Packing your Hospital Bag: What You REALLY Need

Going Home Outfit for Mama // Cozy Cardigan (ON SALE!) , Nursing Tank & Zella Leggings – ON SALE! (this is the exact outfit that I have packed for the hospital!)

Going Home Outfit for Baby // Since we don’t know the gender, I will be sticking with gender neutral clothing but you can pack whatever you would like for baby! Mostly, the baby will stay swaddled in the swaddles the hospital provides, but I always bring a little outfit to take baby home in πŸ™‚  The outfit I chose to bring this time is by TANE organics because their baby clothing is so soft and amazing on baby’s skin (included in the giveaway)

Packing your Hospital Bag: What You REALLY Need

Pacifier // My babies never took one but I always take one just in case. Even if you’re breastfeeding, I would bring one to pop in now and again sparingly should you need to! I love these from ecopiggy (all natural rubber pacifiers) ! You can use code: Lynzyandco20 for 20% off!

Nipple Balm // Earth Mama Angel Baby & Zoe Organics make a great product for this!

Slippers & Flip Flops // You really only need the flip flops but I also pack slippers because they’re cozy while you’re in the hospital πŸ™‚

Post partum Underwear // Pretty Pushers makes these amazing underwear with a drawstring in front! How GENIUS is that?! I also found these here with I also packed with me!

Polaroid Camera // To catch memories of the day and instantly have the photos for your baby book!

Packing your Hospital Bag: What You REALLY Need

Phone charger and extension cord // The outlets are notoriously far from everything and an extension cord for your phone charger, music player, etc. will come in handy!

Robe // This hooded zip up robe was suggested to me by one of you and OH MY GOODNESS. Talk about the best thing I have ever put on my body, ever. I love that it easily zips up and down rather than being open like a regular robe and having to tie it! For those of you having babies in the summer, this robe is short sleeve and shorter! It’s currently on sale for $30!!

Pillow // It’s amazing having your own pillow there because hospital pillows are less than desirable πŸ™‚

Ceramic coffee tumbler // Raspberry leaf tea to prep uterus and cervix for delivery and help with recovery afterwards – Oat Mama’s Lactation Tea

Oat Mama Lactation Bars // I used this when I had Ellie and noticed an increase in my production, plus they are delicious!

Packing your Hospital Bag: What You REALLY Need

Nightgown // This Dwell & Slumber dress is perfect to dress up on the go or just sleep in at home. They have ones that button up or zip up, making nursing effortless!

  1. 10 weeks! Right now I don’t enjoy much with being sick. My first pregnancy I loved feeling the baby move around!

  2. enterung for our little carbear! A beautiful first time mom to be that would thoutoughly enjoy each well thought out item you have in the hospital bag!!

  3. I’m 9 weeks pregnant with baby number SEVEN!!! I love being pregnant. There’s nothing like feeling your baby move inside you.

  4. I am 32 weeks pregnant and this will be our 2nd baby. This pregnancy has been quite different than my first. Much more eventful with some things that have been found when i’ve gone in for routine ultrasounds. But even with an unexpected diagnosis for our little guy, we are still staying positive and looking forward to meeting him this September. Feeling him move around more and more makes me smile knowing that he’s there during the day/night. No better feeling in the world. <3

  5. 24 wks with dash two and am loving actually feeling way more kicks earlier this time around πŸ™‚ also loving watching my three yo son love on the bump which he loving calls ‘my baby.’ 😍

  6. I gave birth in April. I did not know the gender of my beautiful baby girl during the entire pregnancy. We called her Joey since we didn’t want to call her the names we had picked out. I miss calling her that lol

  7. Proud mama of a four year old and trying for baby #2!

This is a great list and beautiful printable checklist! The only thing I would add is pack a tiny container of coconut oil and put some on baby’s tush right away–makes removing those meconium poops MUCH easier. And you can use the coconut oil too!

  8. No longer preggo…but I miss it SO MUCH!!! My baby is 12 weeks old now and I’m already wanting another one and to be pregnant again, haha! My absolute favorite thing about being pregnant was watching my son move around in my belly πŸ™‚

  9. Almost 38 weeks with my second! I’ve loved every moment of being pregnant but am definitely ready for this little one to be here now! I love your blog, all of your posts and advice are always so helpful and make me feel more comfortable and prepared! Thank you so much!

  10. Very early, 6 weeks but it’s my 3rd and I love knowing I’m making a tiny human (and that I get to use the excuse I’m pregnant for taking naps and avoiding house chores )

  11. This is a fantastic resource! Would totally love to win this! Today (7/22) is my due date! I think I’m gonna have to evict him though. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  12. I’m 25 weeks pregnant with my third, and what I’ve loved this go around is how much the texture of my hair has changed! What I’ll appreciate the most from this giveaway is the refresh oil and the dwell + slumber dress!!!

  13. I will be 37 weeks tomorrow! I can’t wait to meet my little man! I have loved feeling him move around inside me!

  14. 27 Weeks! With my 5th pregnancy! My boobs went from icky to awesome with this pregnancy and feeling the baby move has been the absolute best… but what has been most fun is finally doing a baby GIRL’s nursery after my boys!

  15. I am now 25 weeks pregnant and my all time favorite thing is feeling my little girl move. It is so amazing that there is a little human lift inside of me and that I can feel every kick, punch, roll and twist. I can’t wait to meet her but I’m definitely gonna miss this feeling the most. πŸ’•

  16. 36 weeks and so glad the end is in sight!! Loved reading your weekly updates! And decorating the nursery was my personal fave part so far!

  17. Currently 25 weeks with our second πŸ™‚ Love feeling the baby move but not a big fan of much else!!! So nauseous and uncomfortable and HOT!!!

  18. I am just about 22wks pregnant with our third baby. It’s been so fun talking to my older sons about their new baby brother coming and I love watching their faces light up when they feel his kicks in my belly. Also, it’s been fun following along here and dressing the bump in great non-maternity finds that I’ll wear after😊

  19. I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with my first baby – a boy! I think I love my bump the most. I actually feel more confident with a baby bump for some reason! πŸ™‚ I also love feeling the baby move!

  20. I’m 28 weeks pregnant and although this is my second and everything isn’t new like with my first, I’m loving the anticipation of what’s to come! I feel so much more confident in the birthing/ postpartum process and cannot wait to meet another baby boy. I’m so excited to see my baby become a big brother and get a best friend. … and baby kicks never get old πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’”

  21. I’m 20 weeks pregnant. We haven’t found out the gender and I love wondering what little soul is moving around in there. The movements I feel are my favorite!

  22. 28 weeks! I loved food before I was pregnant, but I love it even more now. Does that count as my favorite part of pregnancy?!?! Haha…only slightly kidding, but watermelons and ice cream aside, I actually love how calm I feel. I anticipated pregnancy to make me more anxious, but I actually feel more cool and collected.

P.S. Your non-maternity clothing recommendations have been spot on. I have the lace bralette and the vici dolls dress with the pockets, and both are in my top 5 favorite pieces of clothing to wear right now. Thank you!!!

  23. This list is vey helpful! I am 27 weeks, due October 17. I am currently pregnant with my second child and my favorite part has been the confidence I have had with my body. I kept up my workout routine and subscribed to a maternity clothing service which has really helped with my physical confidence.

  24. i really love everything about pregnancy. after all of our infertility struggles i’m so thankful for each moment. i love the big belly! i’ve never felt more beautiful, and the kicks are indescribable. truly the whole experience is a blessing!

  25. I am currently 37 weeks pregnant (3rd baby). It’s been one of the hardest pregnancy but I’ve loved all the movements during this pregnancy. Knowing it’s my last, I’ve tried to enjoy it as much as possible despite all the sickness.

  26. 31 weeks with precious bundle #3! The best thing about this pregnancy has been seeing my daughters’ excitement and anticipation…they give me belly rubs and kisses, and my oldest even sings baby lullabies.

  27. 31 weeks pregnant and it’s my first pregnancy. It’s a hard question to answer when I’m asked what I’ve loved about being pregnant, because honestly it’s been really awful. From passing out in a restaurant and hitting my head, to bronchitis, to breaking a rib, to throwing up until week 28 it hasn’t been easy. When I think about it though, what I can say I enjoy the most is that even though my body is falling apart my baby is thriving and growing and everything is happening how it should to him. It is quite the little miracle and I can’t believe we as women can do this!

  28. I’m 17 weeks with my 3rd! I love when we find out the gender and when you feel the kicks! We find out the gender on Tuesday hopefully if baby cooperates 😁

  29. I am 34 weeks along with #4! My favorite thing this time around has been watching my older kids interact with the baby (talking/singing, feeling kicks, watching the ultrasound, etc).

  30. I am almost 36 weeks and I loved that in this (my second) pregnancy, I have almost bypassed nausea completely and dont have much heartburn either! Overall, this pregnancy is easier than my first. Can’t wait to meet my baby girl oh so soon! your blog post is amazing!!! <3

  31. I’m 33 weeks pregnant. I love feeling my baby boy move and talking to my older son about being a big brother. I can’t wait to
    see them together! πŸ’™πŸ’™

  32. Almost 29 weeks pregnant! This is my first pregnancy and it has not been easy. I have been in and out of the hospital with complications but so looking forward to holding my little boy! Wouldn’t change anything! My yeti water bottle has been my best companion! I love me so ice cold water!

  33. 31 weeks with baby 2! I have loved everything after week 16 – I had horrible morning sickness until then! I love feeling the baby move!

  34. I’m 27 weeks with my first and I love feeling her move and kick. I also love how excited my husband is and the bond we have over this sweet baby. Thank you so much for your relatable and inspirational content!

  35. I’m 37 weeks and the best part of my pregnancy is how attached my oldest daughter has been getting with her new sister. She’ll come and hug and kiss my belly.

  36. I’m 29 weeks! My first baby turned 17 this year so I’m in uncharted territory πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ My favorite thing about being pregnant has been feeling my sweet baby boy moving inside me! We cannot wait to meet him! Knowing that he is the light at the end of the tunnel makes all the back pain, hip pain & annoyingness of PUPPS seem more bearable!
Thank you Lynzy for all the mommy tips, fashion advise & discount codes! Most of all thank you for sharing your life, being so REAL & all the laughs! I look forward to your IG posts & stories daily! ❀️

  39. I’m on my 3rd pregnancy & I’m only 14 weeks so far . I have loved everything BUT all day sickness πŸ™‚ , this being our last baby has made me appreciate everything about pregnancy and the fact that I won’t experience this again really makes you enjoy & laugh about those not so laughable moments…I definitely love being in m y 2nd trimester and not have to worry about barfing on anyone who’s in front of me lol πŸ™‚

  40. I’m 30 weeks pregnant right now! After 3 miscarriages, the thing I enjoy by far the most about pregnancy is feeling baby boy move all the time!

  41. I’m no weeks pregnant, but each month I’m hopeful πŸ™‚ we did an IUI this month, so maybe this is the one! πŸ™‚

  42. I’m 22 weeks with my first πŸ™‚ So far he has been pretty easy on me but my favorite part of being pregnant is seeing how nurturing my husband is. We love to feel the baby kick. Thanks so much for this guide- I need all the advice I can get!

  45. I have seen so many ‘hospital bag’ posts that seem to have WAY too much stuff! Love how simple this one is!

  46. I am 15 weeks pregnant with my second child. I love that I am already feeling the baby and experiencing things in a different light this time around (however, this morning sickness that I didn’t have my 1st pregnancy can go away anytime now!)

  47. This is such an awesome list of goodies to take to the hospital!! I’ve loved being pregnant at the same time as you!! Seriously such helpful tips, and amazing style! I picked up one of the dresses you recommended for my shower and got so many compliments!! You’ve easily become my favorite blogger!!

  48. I’m 34 weeks pregnant, I’ve had a pretty rough pregnancy having Hyperemesis and blood clots but I’ve enjoyed feeling my little ones movements and seeing the bond already between my four year and little one in my belly. He loves to snuggle my belly and talk to the baby. Knowing that he will be here so soon makes me so excited! πŸ™‚

  49. Almost 13 weeks pregnant with my first. What I’ve enjoyed most so far is sharing the news with out friends and family. ❀❀

  50. Funny story and I know I told you this a couple years ago, but I actually found your blog by a Pinterest pin about hospital bag packing when you posted a few years ago. Have been following your blog, Facebook, and Instagram ever since!

  51. 29 weeks tomorrow. This pregnancy has been so much tougher than my last, but if I had to say one thing I’ve enjoyed about it, that would be connecting with so many amazing moms going through the same things as I am on Instagram. It truly is a lifesaver having so many people to relate to!

  52. What an amazing giveaway! Im only 16 weeks but with some year old this would be amazing! One less thing I would have to do before baby #2 comes along!

  55. I’m currently 12 weeks pregnant with my first! After trying for nearly two years, the fact alone that I am pregnant is my favorite part! It isn’t so bad seeing our parents getting excited about being first time grandparents and getting swarmed with love and support either πŸ˜‰
