Our Kids Gift List – 2018

I saw this “gifting philosophy” a few years ago and loved the concept. I really do not want my kids to feel overwhelmed with “stuff” on Christmas and they really won’t know what to even play with if they get a ton of gifts. For all of these reasons, we have decided to go with the 4 gift philosophy. Each year it may change but this year, these are the ones we went with. Other options could be:

One Thing they share

Something to do (could be tickets to a game, a trip for the whole family, etc)

Something to make

5-year old: KidKraft Disney Princess Cinderella Royal Dreams Dollhouse | We ended up going with this one over the Barbie Dreamhouse and nearly saved $80!

3-year old: Happy Places Shopkins Beach House Playset | My 3 year old is obsessed with shopkins so I know she will love these!
with Happy Places Shopkins Rainbow Convertible |

1-year old: WOW Robin’s Medical Rescue – Emergency | We actually have the farm truck by the same brand and Miles LOVES it so I got him this one!

1-year old: Barneys New York LITTLE GIRAFFE Chenille Security Blanket | The feeling of this security blanket is amazing!

5-year old: Magic Tree House Boxed Set, Books 1-4 by Mary Pope Osborne | with this My Bookmark Penguin | I have heard WONDERFUL things about this book set for her age group!

3-year old: How to Catch an Elf by Adam Wallace | I have had this book on our list for awhile so pulled the trigger!

1-year old: Richard Scarry’s Best Word Book Ever

Crate & Barrel Kids Ikat Playhouse | We will set this up the night before bu the tree so they see it when they walk down!

  1. Wonderful philosophy & loved seeing what you chose for your kiddos! I love that you got Miles the Richard Scarry Best word book Ever. Believe it or not, that was ONE OF my favorite bookS TO PORE OVER as a youngster (and I am now 45!) and I still TO THIS DAY HAVE MY FADED & WELL-WORN COPY TUCKED AWAY ON THE SHELF!

  2. How do you split up Santa gifts vs parent gifts? Are these all from Santa or all from parents or mixed? Trying to figure out what makes sense to do!

    1. I like this idea a lot for gifts! My family has always done stockings from Santa and gifts under the tree from our mom. I do the same with my kids. I really love the magic of Santa, but also want my kids to know the value of these gifts (and of giving).

  3. We do the exact same thing. It has made christmas easier and me focused. Also love when shopping for grandparents/aunts/ uncles/ cousins we have the kids help. they use the same language,”what is something Nana needs or wants!”

  4. Ive been doing this Since weve had kids. Didnt Even know it was a thing. So ahead of the game. Lol. It really makes gifting and santa easier.
