I love how laid back and classic this nursery is. Just a few details that really stand out and a place to unwind for baby. Chalet created this nursery for her little boy, Easton and I jumped at the opportunity to feature it. Her home is absolutely STUNNING and it’s finally back in her family after 50 years (scroll down to see it)! Chalet, I would love to see that beauty in person some day! 😉
What was your inspiration for this nursery design?
My husband and I designed the nursery together, which was really fun. We wanted a nursery for our boy that wasn’t too baby-ish so it could easily grow with him. People kept asking us what theme our nursery was going to be, and we really didn’t have one (or want one!)… Like the rest of our house, we took our time decorating and just searched until we found pieces that we loved–and ended up with a simple, comfortable room with lots of texture. The first piece we found was the star rivet wall hanging. I loved the idea of having the visual interest come from texture instead of color–we found the metal/leather/wood/canvas/chambray pieces first and thought the large shag rug was the perfect final texture to soften it up
Describe the process of putting the nursery together. Did you renovate/paint beforehand? Were there any DIY projects involved?
Three years ago when my (now) husband and I got engaged and were looking for a house, the house that my great grandparents designed and built in 1940 went on the market. It hasn’t been in my family for over 50 years – long story short, we went to see it and even though the interior wasn’t our style, we fell in love with the character and history of it and had a vision for how to make it our own. The floors/doors/molding/trim were all a medium-colored wood, so we had the floors stained dark walnut, and the doors/trim painted white. We knew if we had children that this room would be the nursery, so we chose a light gray so it would work for a boy or girl. My friend made the “Baby Vavrek” burlap letters hanging on the magnet board above the toy chest — She had that hanging up at my baby shower, and it was way too cute to not put up somewhere! Other than that, there were no DIY projects – my husband and I decided it was best to hire an expert who could do it in a timely fashion… 🙂
