8 Mom Hacks for Sick Kids
A sick child is something we all dread so much that we try to avoid it like the plague. Unfortunately, once your child is in daycare or school, all is lost. Your child inevitably will get sick 297438 times that year and will most likely infect the rest of your house too. Don’t worry though, it’s great for building their immune systems! It just stinks while you are getting through it.
Recently I came across some pretty cool tricks to aiding in the healing process and I wanted to share them with you! I haven’t tried them all yet, but it’s definitely worth a shot when your kids get sick! Getting them better is the number 1 priority! So, if you are reading this because you have a sick child, may the healing forces be with you! Let us know if you try any of these and if they worked for you! 🙂
1.) First up is a little introduction to a new tool for checking your child’s temperature. I was recently sent one of these “Temp Traq’s” (TempTraq) and found it to be really interesting! Temp Traq is a 24 hour Temperature Monitor that allows you to know what your child’s temperature is at all times. It also sends alerts to your mobile device. This is all possible thanks to this small adhesive patch that you place in your child’s underarm. This is such a great alternative to the typical thermometer and I love that it makes getting a temperature reading faster and easier. Keeping your child’s temperature down will make them feel a whole lot better! Now you can monitor fevers with the best technology out there!
2.) DIY Honey Lemon Sore Throat Pops // Disclaimer: honey should not be given to children under 12 months old. I absolutely love these homemade pops that will help to soothe your child’s throat! Go check it out on Homespun with Love!
3.) DIY Medical Dosing Chart // Life can get crazy and if your child is on medication several times a day, you want to make sure you aren’t missing any doses! Check out this DIY medical dosing chart here!
4.) Sick Bucket // Keep one of these one hand at all times – I swear they come in handy! Fill it with things that can entertain your sick kiddos and make them feel better. Plus, it will give them something to look forward to despite them feeling so lousy! Holly at Kids Activities Blog created one here!
5.) Vomiting. Diarrhea. THE WORST. It doesn’t take long before your child becomes dehydrated, leaving them feeling even worse. I love this homemade pedialyte recipe that will be the perfect way to hydrate your little one!
6.) Make a sore throat sweeter with……marshmallows! I couldn’t believe this one until I tried it myself! It totally does help and since kids LOVE marshmallows, it’s a win-win situation!
7.) Chase that cough away at night time with this trick –> lather on vicks (but not on the chest!) Put vicks on their feet and then place socks over them!
8.) Get him to take his medicine by taking a lollipop and dipping it in the medicine and letting him lick it. Do this until all of the medicine is gone! However, if you’re like my Olivia – you LOVE medicine and won’t mind taking the whole dose! Ha!
