So excited to kick off “No Spend” April with this post on how to do spring layers in New England. For some of you on the southern coast, these layers will probably be for your winter 😉 but for us Northerners, it’s still snowing BUT WE WANT SPRING. It snowed 6 inches on April 2 (two days ago) and I almost shed a few tears because my legs and face need some dang sunshine. Today’s post will coincide with my Instagram stories where I show you how I use layers to transition into the spring/summer season around here! These pieces are my tried and true pieces that I love to layer with and transition into different seasons.
*I am participating in a No Spend April with my dear friend, Karla who you can find hanging out over here. She is a true gem in this blogging world and I promise you’ll find a new friend in here as soon as you watch her stories. She will be giving a ton of tips & tricks this month as well that will encourage you to love your own wardrobe and only purchase new pieces that you know will be a great addition to what you already have!
*This week we also have Courtney joining us and telling us about her tried and true favorites for living in Texas. The pieces that she consistently gravitates to, year after year. She will be posting to her IG stories on Friday and will also have a corresponding blog post, which I will link to here once it’s live!
Spring Layers in New England
Absolute must have YEAR round is a denim jacket. I’ve had my basic Madewell one (currently 20% off) for years but I just added a lighter denim one from Old Navy recently because I loved the distressing on it. There is SO much you can do with a denim jacket for layering and I also love it tied around the waist when wearing a summer dress too!
If you don’t see your size in the mules above, try here! Fully stocked!
** Please refrain from looking at my piss poor manicure 😉
When in doubt, just add the chambray shirt. It goes with EVERYTHING and adds that extra layer of warmth with any outfit. I layer it over any top and then with a jacket over that if it’s extra chilly. Tie it around your waist in the summer with a cute summer dress too! I actually have two. My first one is from Gap and it’s probably over 6 years old and last year I invested in a Madewell one (currently 20% off) because the material was much better quality but honestly, I still kept my Gap one because I love it!
I wear my striped top all the time for those of you that haven’t noticed yet, it’s kind of embarrassing. I own one long sleeve one, two short sleeve and one tank in black and white. I wear them ALL the time when layering. There is nothing better than a classic black & white striped top (or dress)!
My go-to outfit is always a pair of white or black distressed denim with some cognac shoes, layered tops and a cognac blazer on top. Something about that cognac that makes everything look nice and polished. This blazer is one of my best purchasing decisions because it goes with everything and it’s beautifully constructed.
Totally forgot to film this one for my stories – will add it soon! 🙂
SHORT SLEEVE SWEATER CARDIGAN
I scooped up this loose knit short sleeve cardigan from Nordstrom two years ago and it’s one of my top 10 favorite pieces in my closet. I layer it over long sleeves, tanks, dresses, basically everything! It hurts my heart to tell you that they have not restocked it since but I did find a few similar options. I wish they had more short sleeve cardigan options out there because they are perfect for that spring & summer transition!
For those of you looking for this dress, click below 🙂 I am wearing a size medium throughout my pregnancy.
TIE BUTTON FRONT SHIRT
I can easily button up my chambray shirt above but I do love my short sleeve ones that are built for tying in front. I own this shirt in both the denim and white because again, they are timeless and go with everything. I tie them up over dresses, wear them plain with white or basic denim. There are a million different ways to layer with these and I LOVE them.
GREEN CARGO JACKET
My particular jacket featured here is from H&M from YEARS ago and it’s still my tried and true favorite because the collar sticks straight up and I love that. This is one of my favorite spring pieces for layering because it goes with everything and adds some structure to the outfit. I linked a few of my favorites below.
