I always dreamed of having a sister. There are many things I loved about being an only child and I do believe that my independence stems from that (and I love that I have been extremely independent throughout my life) but there is a small part of me that always wished I could reach out to a sister! We didn’t find out the gender when we were pregnant with baby #2 and when we she was born, I cried the happiest tears. A sister for my little Olivia. Someone for her to play dress up with, run the yard with, share secrets with and fight with (because we all know that there will be plenty of those!) 😉 Being able to see their sisterly bond forming already is one of the greatest gifts of motherhood.
Many people ask me how they get along and how the adjustment was in the beginning once Ellie was born. The answer is simply that they get along just perfectly, for now anyways! Olivia was a bit unsure in the beginning once we took her home, but within a week instantly warmed up to her baby sister. They occasionally fight over the same water bottle and the same toys but that’s what it’s all about, teaching them about sharing and playing with one another. The cutest is when Ellie wakes up from her nap and instantly runs over to her sister’s room to wake her up too! They are inseparable and I hope it stays that way until forever!
