Puppy Update & How we are Surviving Puppyhood with a Toddler & Baby at home!

It’s never a good time to get a puppy, or have a baby, or buy a new house or anything that can be life changing. Of course, there is some sort of planning when it comes down to it but ultimately, things that require change are always things you need to take a leap of faith with. Getting Winston is a perfect example of this. I grew up with 3 German Shepherds. 2 of them were around for my whole life and then our last little guy was with us for awhile until he went off to a farm loving home and became a show Shepherd. I am a dog lover by nature and have always wanted a companion for myself and for our family. Having the girls grow up with a Shepherd was always something I wanted and it’s been so amazing watching them come fast friends.

I knew that there was a significant amount of work ahead of us before we made the decision. Winston, came to us from Germany in early September and boy, was he a handful. He definitely has a laid back personality but he’s still a puppy and let’s us know that from time to time 😉 He had to go outside in the middle of the night for the first 1-2 weeks, which was BRUTAL in between the wake-ups with Ellie bear too. I thought for sure I would lose my mind, but hey, here I am! I lived to tell you about it 😉 Training has been a bit difficult to fit in but we are making sure we stay on top of it so that he grows up to be a big, smart boy! We take him to class once per week and he will be going to a K9 trainer in December for 2 weeks as well. I do daily “work” with him and make sure that he gets plenty of exercise. The best part about that is Olivia LOVES to run outside with him so I will just open the door and let them run free in the fenced yard.

I could not be happier that Winston has entered our lives and brings us so much joy on a daily basis. He is extremely gentle with Ellie, makes the goofiest faces and has feet and ears bigger than the rest of his body. At 4 months he weighs in at 36 pounds (which is a relief since he was significantly underweight when he arrived with us) and he’s a big solid boy!

We often take him to my favorite park down the street from us where he loves meeting new friends. So many people and other dogs walk here and he really enjoys it. We’ve been adding on a ton of layers since it’s been 30-40 degrees on some mornings! I love layering plaid shirts, denim jackets and sweaters! Hats are also my favorite accessory. The beret I am wearing here is by Rella and it’s so cozy and warm. They have some gorgeous warm weather accessories that  you’ll want to check out here! Rella is an affordable luxury brand that is the best way to spruce up your fall and winter wardrobe. It’s also perfect for gifting during the holiday season! 🙂

My husband has always wanted a German Shepherd. They are such pretty dogs! I don’t know if I could deal with getting up in the middle of the night to let a puppy out.

What an adorable dog! I agree that there’s never a right time to make any life changing decision but sometimes when it’s right, it’s right. I didn’t plan on adopting my dog Loki in 2015, it sort of happened and it was the BEST decision of my life.

Oh wow, it’s cool that you’re taking him to those classes! Winston sounds like a wonderful dog! I love the fall look!

Your puppy is so cute! Nothing brings a family together or brings more happiness to a family better than a dog. I should know, I have two of them and I love them dearly.

New puppies are a lot of work but how cute they can be! we want a new puppy but I am not ready to take care of two adult dogs, a hurt boyfriend and three kids along with a puppy so we can wait a bit – maybe after winter season!

As a dog rescuer this post warms my heart. Dogs bring so much love to families. I’m glad you and Winston have each other.

What cute outfits y’all have one. Your dog is adorable as well. I had a GS when I was small and I’ve always wanted another one.

Dogs are family! We have a small breed dog that is so gentle and patient with the grandchildren. When I was a little girl, we had a GS mix we named “Thor.”

The pup is so adorable and it really is like having another baby in the house. I had a German Shepard and he was extremely smart. He opened the freezer and frig when we would leave the house. These outfits are so cute. I love the sweaters and the flannel shirts. Thanks for sharing the update.

I am fairly new to your blog but am already overwhelmed by all of the sponsored content. I know that you try to talk about them in a way that really fits into your life but honestly, it’s waaaaaaay too much sponsored content and really it does not seem genuine to me. This post in particular was supposed to be about Rella and what they sell, and you basically included one sentence about it. This post is 100% about your dog. Did Rella ask you to write a blog post about your dog? I’d guess not. Enough with the sponsored content already.
