It has always been a dream of mine to live right by the ocean and now that we do, I take extra caution to protect my strands since they take a beating during the summer months! Between the sun drying it out and the significant humidity we have, I have learned a few tips and tricks along the way to get your hair in the best condition that it can be! The first step is making sure you are taking great care of your hair with the right shampoo & conditioner. As you already know, I have been using Nioxin’s System Kit #5 to keep my hair feeling thick and beautiful after the birth of my first two babies. For the last few months I have been using their Night Density Rescue and I have to say that I have noticed a big difference in the thickness of my hair! It’s a night time treatment that comes with a pipette and you simply add a few drops to your scalp and rub around with your fingertips. My hair used to fall out in CLUMPS after I had Ellie and I was in awe at the amount of hair loss I had, but this product alone has been amazing!
Protecting your Hair During the Summer Months
1.) Hair Coverage // I am a HAT girl through and through. I love wearing baseball caps, straw hats, fedoras, anything really! This gorgeous Brixton hat is my go-to for the beach and it helps to keep the sun from beating down on my locks!
2.) Stay away from hot tools // This can be a difficult one, I know! No matter what product you use as “protection”, the best protection is to avoid them altogether! Air dry your hair and embrace your natural waves. What I love to do is put a braid in before bed and then let the locks fall in the morning. Voila! Instant waves without hot tools!
3.) Nourish your locks // Using Nioxin’s Deep Repair Hair Masque, using it 1-2 times per week to give your hair a little treat! It strengthens your hair shaft against damage and in turn, reducing breakage!
4.) Protect your Scalp // Wearing your hair in a ponytail will help and if you want to wear it down, just make sure to hit that scalp with some SPF! A lot of people will forget that the scalp also needs SPF! They make an SPF powder specifically for scalps that you can buy! 🙂
5.) Cut your hair // Make sure to get a fresh trim in time for summer! It will reduce breakage and ultimately keep your hair healthier, longer!
