How & Why we Make Everything a Family Affair

I’m sharing #Clarifye in my life as part of a LensCrafters sponsored series for Socialstars™

How & Why we Make Everything a Family Affair

My philosophy has always been this..

“If you don’t bring your kids with you to everything possible, they will never know how to act in different situations because they won’t be exposed to them”

Now I know that every mother and every family is different but I have always had the mentality that if I didn’t expose my children to every kind of situation that they wouldn’t know how to behave in certain situations. A huge example would be going out to eat. Olivia and Ellie have gone out to eat with us since they were both fresh out of the womb. They behave 90% of the time and Olivia knows that when she’s at a restaurant that she can color and talk with us but that it’s a restaurant and that you have to behave while you’re there. We have never had any huge issues with it and have only had to leave a restaurant 1-2 times because of a behavioral issue. But, if you don’t expose them to restaurants, they won’t ever know how to behave.

So, with that being said, we literally take them everywhere with us. And, before you ask, YES there have been times where they didn’t behave and it was embarrassing and I may or may not have wanted to hide in a corner…

But, guess what?! We made it to see another day. Most of the time, no one honestly cares that your child is throwing a tantrum about not being able to take home that loofah spotted in aisle 7. Honestly, people don’t care. So, bring them with you! Bring them to the car maintenance store to get your oil changed, bring them to the grocery store, bring them along with you for your eye exam 😉 The more you expose them to different situations, the better it is. I promise! Plus, they learn to use their imagination more! While we are waiting in the doctors office or walking through a store, Olivia will make up pretend stories and react to them. I never bring any devices with us and I always allow them to entertain themselves with the world around them (95% of the time – there are always those 5% of times where you NEED to take out your phone for entertainment before you cry) 😉

We took the girls last night to get Daddy a new pair of glasses for his big interview today! He’s had the same pair for quite awhile and the girls have scratched the lenses pretty badly and the frames were all stretched out. We were introduced to their new Clarify eye exam where you can receive the initial digital measurement in about 60 seconds! Clarifye helps reduce the guesswork of the exam so diagnostics are fast and more precise so you get more personal discussion time with the doctor. Spending time with the doctor can always be difficult and this allows you to have all of your questions answered!

You should have your eyes checked at least once a year because your vision can change and you want to make sure that your prescription is correct. This eye exam was SO cool and there was a three step pre-screen exam and then a special machine that even reads your current glasses prescription just by putting your glasses inside! The information available to us through technology is so interesting these days!

Olivia had a blast trying on new glasses with daddy and together they were able to narrow down that one special pair that we took home!

PS. This little nugget took down a standing eyeglass display while we were there 😉 See! Crap happens. But, we made it out of there alive with only a few stares here and there!

Ryan took home the second pair down and we absolutely love them! He wore them to his interview today, so wish him luck that he gets a job next year! 😉

I take my kids pretty much everywhere with me. I do have to say, to one of my eye appointments I have not! This is a great reminder, it is important for them to see how to act and to make things less scary for little ones.

Awww what an adorable little angel. Talking about the family affair, we are humans; emotional and patient. So certain things tend to happen.

I agree with this idea in so many ways. My parents always took us to nice restaurants as kids and it made me feel so grown-up. It also taught me to try new things and to act appropriately in different environment.s
