There is nothing better than a homemade gift and this is the perfect Father’s Day gift idea for kids to make! Ellie especially loved it since she was able to get as dirty as humanly possible, which is always her goal when crafting anything 😉 This Father’s Day gift idea is super easy to make and so CUTE when it’s finished. I love that it’s spring/summer themed and it’s a great addition to your home decor as well! I will provide the step by step tutorial within this post and would love to hear about your own DIY drafting ideas for Father’s Day if you made any!

Ecoscraps soil –> Have you all heard of this? I hadn’t until I ran into it at Lowe’s and starting reading the back of the bag and immediately put it into our shopping cart! Ecoscraps soil is perfect for growing plants & food because the soil is organic and nutritious and allows you to grow plants and food in a healthier way! We picked up a bag of the plant soil for this project but there are so many other options as well, including flower and vegetable soil, vegetable food, all purpose food, flower food and many other combinations! You can scoop up your bag at any nearby Lowe’s store or even online!
>Kid’s Paint & Brushes –> We used a few different ones we had lying around the house!
>Piece of paper, scissors, pencil, Permanent Marker
>Twine/string of any kind you use
> Simple small pots –> We picked these up at a nearby flower shop for $1.49 each
Flowers or plants –> Olivia picked out the flower she wanted to use but you could also plant little vegetables within the pots as well!
2.) PAINT THE FISH
>Have your children dip their thumb into the paint to start creating the fish on the outside of the pots! Have them use the brushes to create the tail. Put as many or as little fish on the post as you would like!
3.) PLANT YOUR FLOWERS/VEGETABLES/ETC
>Use the recommended amount of Ecoscraps to plant within the pot. Make sure to water daily! 🙂
4.) “MAKE DADDY”
>Grab a piece of paper and a pencil and have your children “draw daddy” and then cut him out
5.) STICK DADDY INTO PLANT
>I was able to wrap the arm around the side of the flower to get him to stay but it should be relatively easy. If not, attach him to a popsicle stick and then stick him in!
6.) ATTACH FISHING POLE
> Cut your string and attach it to daddy’s arm and the fishs’ mouth! I just wrapped the string around the flower stem and glued it to the pot
7.) HOOKED ON DADDY
>Use your permanent marker to write “HOOKED ON DADDY” anywhere on the pot that you would like!
That’s it! Super easy and something dad will LOVE, since it comes straight from the heart 🙂
Ecoscraps wants to give one of YOU a $50 gift card to Lowe’s for your own little DIY project! Whether you are planting some new veggies, flowers or herbs – this is your chance to get it all started! It’s super easy to enter! 🙂 Good luck!
