How to Design the Farmhouse Bathroom of your Dreams

If you have had the pleasure of seeing our bathrooms on snap chat, you know that they are in desperate need of a little makeover. Between the blue sinks and tub in the kids bathroom and the mint green sink and tub in ours, I am more than ready to welcome a little change! We are saving up our pennies to eventually make over both bathrooms, and for now I get to dream 🙂 Here is a little design guide to making over your own farmhouse bathroom!

pick a wall

Beadboard: (OUR PICK) I absolutely love headboard. We are planning to completely renovate our hall bathroom (the “kids” bathroom in the near future and I cannot wait to have headboard on the ceiling and walls!

Shiplap: Who doesn’t love shiplap? Seriously…. I have yet to meet one person who doesn’t.

Paint: My pick for a paint color would be  ‘Classic Gray’ by Benjamin Moore. It’s used throughout most of our home and I love how subtle it is! But, ‘Gray Clouds’ by Sherwin Williams as shown by this image from Room For Tuesday is a close second!

Wallpaper: Wallpaper has really started to grow on me and I love that it adds such a statement to a room. I just love these two wallpaper patterns and I MAY just wallpaper the wall with the vanity with the black and white one. So beautiful!  Shop them here:  Floral & Black + White Floral

pickflooring

Cement Tile: (OUR PICK) This flooring is just my favorite. I don’t know what it is but it reminds me of an old vintage parlor bathroom and I love it!

Distressed Laminate: This laminate is a close second favorite. Honestly, I may have to order samples of both and lay them out to see which one I like best! I love the distressed look!

Planks: Planked flooring // Looks so beautiful, especially in a bathroom!

Grey Oak Laminate: I really love the look of this grey in particular. Looks rustic and charming at the same. I love the undertones that this laminate has!

Grey Weathered Oak Plank: This weathered oak would also look beautiful in a bathroom. It’s hard to choose just one!

pick your tub

Sanford Cast Iron Clawfoot Tub: (OUR PICK) This tub has been on my wish list for YEARS. I would get the foot finish in a oil rubbed bronze as well as the faucet and hand shower.

Double Ended Cast Iron Pedestal Bathtub: I love how simple this one is, it’s a close second after the clawfoot tub!

Freestanding Tub: Another simple option!

White Soaking Bathtub: If you don’t want a free standing tub, this one is great!

pick your vanity

Rustic Grey Vanity: (OUR PICK) This one is by far my favorite and I WISH SO BADLY that it came as a double sink so that we could get this one for our bathroom makeover!

Rustic Double Sink: This one is a close second to the one above but I definitely still love that first one! WAAA!

Single Vanity: I love the hardware on this one and the legs. It’s very simple and I love that!

Double Vanity: This one reminds me of a card catalog and I just love how it looks so vintage. A good price for such a large, quality piece!

Abbott Single Sink Console: I love the openness of this one but I think I would personally need more storage with our kids. But it’s a beauty!

pick your mirror

Pine wood mirror: (OUR PICK) I just love the pine wood on this mirror and the size is perfect for a double sink vanity!

Rustic Wood Framed Oval Mirror: I really love this one as well. It would look gorgeous up against a white/cream vanity!

Arched Mirror: This is actually one of our picks as well. I am having a hard time deciding which one I like better, the pine wood mirror or this one. Both very elegant and beautiful. Plus, a great price!

Grey Washed Pedlar Mirror: This mirror is perfect for a little home near the water. I love the grey washed driftwood appearance and the rope that outlines the mirror itself!

Ornate Shape Mirror: I love this mirror for really anywhere in the home. It’s shape is beautiful and I love the price too!

pick your lighting

Oil Rubbed Bronze Sconce: (OUR PICK) I have these in our dining area and porch. They are technically outdoor, but could be indoor as well! I love these so much!

Squirrel Cage Sconce: These would be really cute on either side of the mirror in any bathroom!

3 Light Wall Fixture: This one is great if you love to have your lighting all the way above in your bathroom!

Beaded 2 Light Sconce: I thought these were so cute! They really make a statement. If you have a very simple bathroom all around, adding these would really make the bathroom pop!

Pendant Light: I love these over an island in a kitchen but I also love them in bathrooms as well!

pick your extras

Lace Curtains: I have these lace curtains in my office and I really love them. They are SUPER cheap and so elegant. I want to use these with a makeshift beam in front of the clawfoot tub!

Floral Towel Hooks: I found these on eBay and thought they were the cutest!

Le Bain Bathroom Sign: I bought this a year ago in anticipation of our new home. One day I will actually get to hang it! For now, it’s in our master bathroom (which is in dire need of some updating)

Numbered Towel Hooks: I thought these were cute too, especially in the kids bathroom. I would love to have a number for each of the kids hanging in their bathroom!

Wall Basket: I want to stack three of these above the toilet for storage!

Botanical Prints: I just love prints like this. I think they would look gorgeous staggered along a bathroom wall!

3 Tier Basket: Perfect for on the sink storage

Floral Art Prints: Another set of prints that I really love (these may be my favorite)

Casual Gray Study Prints: I like these for their simple coloring. I think they would look great with that tile flooring!

Shower Curtain: This reminds me of a grain sack curtain. Love how simplistic it is!

Apothecary Jar: These are great for storage on the bathroom sink counter

Floral Shower Curtain: If the rest of your bathroom is relatively low key, this is a great option for a bit of color and a statement. I love floral shower curtains!

Trash Basket: A simple wire basket for trash

Awesome picks! We are moving soon, so I will save this for reference. Most of the houses we are looking at have really awful bathrooms, but at least I can dream and plan!

I love all the ideas that you provided. I’ve been looking at a lot of photos and seem to find that most showers have subway tile on the walls. We have subway tile in our other two bathrooms and wanted to do something different. What other tile on the wall in the shower would you suggest is closest to match the farmhouse style? I have found one of those really large rectangle tile about 2′ x 1′ however am unsure if that is more of a modern look or if I can combine that with some shiplap ( in the remainder of the bathroom) to make it farmhouse style. Any advice that you can provide would be helpful thank you
