Combined Nursery & Guest Bedroom

Our home has 4 bedrooms and currently three of them are occupied, with the 4th being a guest bedroom. We decided to create a combined nursery and guest bedroom for now until we eventually bunk the girls together and switch up the rooms a bit next spring/summer. For the first 3 months or so, the baby will be in our room at night but I do plan to nap baby here in the nursery during the day prior to the night transition. When we have guests after that, we will just have the baby sleep with us in our room that particular night.

I wasn’t sure at first that this space was going to work and that it would be too small to fit everything but somehow we we’re able to make it work! The only thing missing is a proper changing table but I plan to convert the little dresser top into one eventually so we aren’t worrying about that just yet. Newborns are easy, change them, feed them, sleep them – anywhere! πŸ˜‰

So, funny part about all of this is there is currently an “M” above that crib which represents both the boy name (we’ve had it picked out for years) AND the girl name. We ventured to our nearby bookstore this weekend to try and complete the girl name because we we’re stumped on a middle name but what we ended up doing was throwing out our original first name that began with an M. HA. So, we took a few steps backwards and we no longer have a girls name. Maybe that means the baby is a boy?! OR it could mean that it’s a girl and she won’t come out until we have her name settled on. Eliora waited to join us until the exact day that we decided on her name πŸ˜‰

The beautiful wooden sign above the guest bed was crafted by Maggie from Hunt & Gather Goods and she is such a genius with wood working. When the sign arrived, I knew that it was just perfect for the space. I told her the quote I wanted and she NAILED the font perfectly.

Combined Guest Room & Nursery featuring the Nook Pebble Pure Crib Mattress

I had a lot of questions about which crib mattress we chose and why. We have used Nook crib mattresses with all of our babies and the number one reason why I love them is because they are 100% organic & breathable. It gives me piece of mind since babies sometimes love to sleep face down and I always feel better knowing that they are able to breathe through the mattress. We never leave ANYTHING else in the crib (so the pillow and animals are just decor for now but they don’t stay in there if baby is in there). For Ellie we chose the Pebble Pure Lite mattress and for this baby we chose to try out the Pebble Pure, which is much heavier in comparison. I love Ellie’s mattress because of how lightweight it is – it’s VERY easy to change the crib sheet but wanted to try the regular pebble pure one out as well!

Beautifully crafted Plum & Sparrow baby bassinet basket for baby’s arrival. I love being able to carry this easily from room to room for baby to nap in the first few weeks-months. A special cover just arrived for the tiny mattress in there too and I cannot wait to put it on!

Thanks for posting about the crib mattress. I am definitely looking into now. Did you have any issues with not using a waterproof mattress cover?

I love this nursery/guest room combo. The neutrals are beautiful! Where did you get the vase on the guest room side? Been looking for one just like it!

Did you get a king size quilt for it to hit the floor on both sides?

I’m in the market for a crib mattress! These looks great, but I was wondering about how you keep it waterproof? I read that you can put a pad on it but it affects the breathability. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I love how simple and beautiful this room is and I’m obsessed with the rug. Is it comfortable? I saw that it was an indoor/outdoor kilim rug and wanted to make sure if was cozy for a baby to crawl on. I’m trying to design my baby girl’s room right now–due in January.

    Thanks!

Hi! Found your post via Pinterest. I am curious what the dimensions of this room were. We are in a 2 bedroom apt and I am battling whether or not I get rid of the guest room but the combo sounds good….even if I have to get rid of a few pieces of furniture. Was that bed a queen? Sorry for all the questions! Thanks so much for your advice!
